Greg's Business Experience

In 1993, after completing my degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and returning from a year working abroad in Gilroy’s sister city in Japan, I established my landscape construction business, GB Landscape Services, Inc.

I am known as a hard worker and a problem solver.

My business began with one employee: myself. I mowed lawns,

pruned trees, cleaned parking lots, and fixed a lot of sprinklers

until I had enough money and business to slowly hire employees.

In the early years, we provided a variety of commercial services to

corporate and municipalities such as AppleBee's, Embassy Suites -

Monterey Bay, multiple In & Out Burger Restaurants, municipal

projects, as well large-track home developments.

I learned how to build a successful business in a highly competitive trade.

As my business grew, we moved into designing and building outdoor living

projects that featured barbecues, pizza ovens, sport-courts, pergolas and large paver driveways.

Most recently we built, and now maintain, a private, 40-acre nursery in Gilroy where we planted nearly 15,000 native trees, many to be planted in the future around Santa Clara County.

GB Landscape Services, Inc. has come a long way from its humble beginnings. I am proud of all our accomplishments.

My business is managed by my wife, Lora, and myself.  Many of our company’s employees have worked for us for more than ten years. For example, one employee who has worked for us for nearly 15 years, oversees the field operations assisted by ten employees.

Construction and development can be very rewarding, but it's also very complex. I am fully versed in understanding and implementing state, county, and city regulations. Environmental regulation, water ordinances, safety precautions, clean air rules, building and planning codes, insurance demands, and banking requirements are just some of what is required to operate a successful construction company.

As the business owner, I'm also very aware of the importance of the intangibles and the business management principles we follow that have helped us achieve success. My company’s success is due to the building and fostering of strong working relationships with cities, businesses, and homeowners.  I am as comfortable presenting to a room full of executives as I am collaborating with heavy equipment operators. Both are equally important to completing projects successfully.

By creating a working environment of unity, creativity, cooperation, and empowerment among our employees and those from other trades that we work alongside, our company has achieved excellence.

Citizens of Gilroy should expect the same.

As your Mayor, I will carry these same positive principles to City Hall to help rebuild a culture where employees feel empowered, citizens' needs are addressed, non-profit organizations feel valued, property/business owners feel listened to, and investors feel excited about Change with Vision.

Greg has proven business and community service experience and a vested interest in making Gilroy better for all. Greg has a background in logical, responsible planning, not controlled by special interests. Plus, he's not a politician!
